The last card for the challenge is a CAS (clean and simple) one layer card, which is so simple it can be finished in a few minutes. The technique is direct-to-paper, which means you use post-it notes to block off the parts of the card you don’t want to ink, then tap or drag (depending on the look you want) the ink pad directly on the paper. I used three different colors, then stamped the trees right over the inked part. This one is also a CASE of a card by CAKath. I think mine looks a little more like winter, which seems appropriate for everyone not living in Southern California!

My fourth challenge card is also a CASE (copy and share everything) of this card by by stampur on splitcoaststampers.com. I made some changes, using the Hardwood background stamp from the Occasions catalog, the Stripes embossing folder to back the tree and a strip of Early Espresso for the knotted accent. I really like the Hardwood stamp but I recommend spending the extra few dollars on the wood mount stamp. I’m having a little trouble getting the clear stamp to stick to the block.

My third card for the challenge is one I CASED from CAKath on splitcoaststampers.com. The trees were embossed in white on black card stock, with a little sponged white craft ink for some shading. I cut two narrow strips of black and carefully glued them above and below the main piece for a little accent. It’s quite dramatic in person.

Another Lovely as a Tree card and if the layout looks familiar, it is. I copied my own layout from the Christmas card. This is a variation on the Northern Lights technique. As you can tell, I left out the black shading. I just like the brighter look. This is the second card for the 4th quarter challenge from my upline. I won again! I chose a beautiful set from the new Occasions catalog called Happy Watercolor.

Happy birthday to my husband, who’s not really as old as a tree, but I couldn’t resist, especially as I just got the new stamp set with the sentiment from the Spring 2014 Occasions catalog, coming out in January.

Lovely&Old

This card doubles as the first one for this quarter’s challenge, featuring the stamp set Lovely as a Tree. This set is older than I am in stamping years (me—ten and a half years as a demonstrator; Lovely as a Tree—it’s been around so long no one remembers how old it is). Most demos think it’s been around forever and will never retire. Mine hasn’t seen that much ink, which is why I decided to use it now. Who knows, 2014 might be the year it goes bye-bye. The tree is embossed in black and sponged for color; the bubble is embossed with Old Artichoke craft ink and clear embossing powder. I was going to use the cool matching frame die and pop it up, but got distracted with embossing and forgot about it. It’s on a base of Old Artichoke.
